So Shonen Knife flew back to Osaka yesterday. They get two days rest and then off to Tokyo for more touring. Hardworking girls.
So surreal, still can't believe I tour managed for them. Naoko said she'll miss me(!) but I think I'll be missing them more! She said I'm welcome to stay with her anytime I'm in Osaka!! (^O^)
Now, to start editing the tour video documentary and find a frame for my signed poster...

More info: smallgang(London) North London stylish art rockers just finished theirdebut album ‘labours’ and are exactly like ‘The Magic Numbers’ (but good and less beast like) being as the band is made up of rock siblings and a secretly married couple. They mine a silky baritone voiced Smog meets Dinosaur JR via the Go betweensand/Scott Walker kind of sound and set to break into your hearts this year and steal important bits. Sputniko! (London/Tokyo) Sputniko! is a London-based Japanese cyber artist. She is a forth generation mathematician, has her own MTV indents and just released her debut DVD album Parakonpe 3000 on 360records in Japan! It is full of the crazy Flash animation videos she created herself. Sputniko! is inspired by Laurie Anderson, manga and modern technology and creates quirky post modern songs exploring this bizarre world that we live in. She hosts her own children’s TV show and has an uncanny ability to win over crowds of both adults and children- when she is not wearing her ROBO-PENIS that is! “Hiromi Ozaki is a computer programmer who becomes Sputniko! making music with an armpit Wiimote called Wakki. Also a visual artist, her performances are masterpieces of spontaneity, fun and most importantly, technology. We guarantee you’ll be singing ‘The Google Song’ for months.” - Offset Festival 08

I love these guys. They are my first production team! (From left to right ) TOP: Joe my DOP, Rafael my 1st AD, Marco my boom operator, Bruno my gaffer, Cristian my continuity supervisor BOTTOM: Rob my sound mixer, Nelson my clapper loader, Josh my focus puller, and Aleandro my camera operator.
I'm in the middle of 12 days production for Super 16mm 2-minute film projects at the London Film Academy. The brief is that Each of our class of 20 is given a 2 min script and two professional actors to prepare and shoot. Each day the class is split into two groups and everyone is allocated a different job role (direcor one day, clapper loader the next day, camera operator the next etc.) on different peoples films. It is fucking exhausting and super stressful (as in, 25 cigarrettes a day stressful) but I haven't been on a team where there have been personality problems among the crew (unlike some of the other group's shoots on the same day).
I was the director on Friday. I quite liked the script I was given and I was very lucky with my actors, they were great. They understood what I felt about the script and they gave me loads to work with. The team that were allocated on my film I could not have been happier about. Despite overrunning by 20 mins of the schedule (for reasons not entirely of our doing), the shoot was a great atmosphere and really fun. I think I'll be pretty happy with my results! Can't wait to see the rushes on Monday!

I feel so rough.
Leaving drinks at the Nordic Bar last night, where the was thursday special was House champagne for 20 quid. Queue a lot of champer guzzling. I remember who I saw and who I talked to but beyond that I don't remember much in terms of conversation or activity, least of all a supposed visit to Ramen Ryo, pouring chilli oil into Toshi's tea, or tasting it or spilling it over the table for a poor waiter to clean up. Nope. The clearest thing I remember is a giving a glass of champagne to a guy who was half dressed as a clown. That is, really half dressed as a clown and not figuratively, i.e. he was wearing a Tshirt, A pair of baggy red poladot trousers and BIG white PVC clown shoes that were about 3 feet long.
And this is before I've even started film school.
Perhaps the plus side is that Champagne is only 90 calories a glass...
